GeophytesGeophyte is found within the Magnoliophyta subphylum of the Spermatophyta division, and despite being divided into two classes, namely Liliopsida (Monocots) and Magnoliopsida (Dicots), most of them are monocotyledonous. ColchicumColchicum taxa serve dual roles as both ornamental and medicinal aromatic plants, and they are distributed globally across Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. This perennial bulbous genus belongs taxonomically to the Cholchicaeae family. The ColchicaceaeColchicaceae family, among its 15 genera, accommodates 270 species, making it the third-largest family in the order Liliales, following the Liliaceae and Smilacaceae families. ColchicumColchicum autumnale is one of the most important species in this genus due to its medicinal and aromaticMedicinal and aromatic properties. On the other hand, most of the ColchicumColchicum species have been used as ornamental purpose.
