Otherness can be understood from multiple perspectives, although always as a matter of identity—with nuances that range from an absence of identification to absolute identification. In populism, whether the traditional or digital type, outlining the other of the populist, their enemy to be defeated, is a fundamental assumption of their strategies. However, there is a rapprochement between the different actors who position themselves as populists, generating a mirroring effect between these agents. This work investigates the similarities and differences between two examples of current digital populism: Jair Bolsonaro and Donald Trump, focusing on defining who their enemies are in their publications on Twitter. The analysis reveals that despite the many differences, Bolsonaro and Trump act in this definition as if they were the same “self”.

The analysis reveals that despite the many differences, Bolsonaro and Trump act in this definition as if they were the same “self”.
