The text investigates how some far-right trends in Brasil have recently dealt with the relationship between the State and the economy of culture. We observe how the political-institutional expressions of such a phenomenon have mobilized meanings on the State's role in funding cultural activities. We seek to show the discursive strategies that further antagonism against the artistic class and stimulate political resentment among social niches in the dispute over public sentiments and forms of governance. The text draws on fieldwork accomplished between 2020 and 2021 on the discursive performances of the leaders of the National Secretariat of Culture of the Jair Bolsonaro administration.
