Transitioning Towards Smart Steel Manufacturing: Results from Research in Poland
摘要
This chapter is about the changes towards Industry 4.0 in the steel market in Poland. In this chapter, the results of realised direct research on the Polish steel market are presented. The author of the study was PhD Eng. Bożena Gajdzik, assoc. Professor at the Silesian University of Technology. The study was preceded by a pilot study, the results of which were presented in the author's monograph, published by Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice (Diagnoza kierunków transformacji przemysłu stalowego w Przemyśle 4.0 (Diagnosis of the steel Industry transformation direction in the Industry 4.0). Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, 2022). The research was carried out from 2020 to 2023 in steel market companies (enterprises) in Poland, including steel mills. The purpose of the research was to identify areas of transformation in the steel industry, taking into account positive and negative impact factors. For this purpose of the research, it was assumed that the transformation of Industry 4.0 is the carrier of the next wave of transformation through the displacement of traditional technologies (based on manual activities) by smart (high) technologies, which will form smart steel manufacturing. The impact of Industry 4.0, through its technological pillars, on changes in the steel industry was presented in this chapter.
