For a long time, surgeons have advocated the benefits of early surgical intervention in at least some patients with primary ileocolic Crohn’s disease as alternative to prolonged medical management. The authors of this study should be credited for completing such an ambitious and yet successful endeavor which for the first time has provided solid evidence supporting the role of early surgery as at least a reasonable alternative to medical management with biologics.
