Use of TNFα Inhibitors and Surgery for Crohn’s Disease
摘要
This is the largest study to date assessing the relationship between use of anti-TNF biologic medications and postoperative infections. Based on the prospective evaluation of over 900 patients undergoing abdominal operations performed in multiple centers the authors could not find any association between postoperative surgical infections and either anti-TNF exposure or drug concentration. Despite its inclusion of heterogeneous abdominal and pelvic operations for inflammatory bowel disease this study has profoundly influenced surgical practice in providing an answer to a very practical clinical question.
