The medical community at large has viewed with enthusiasm the success associated with immunotherapy through PD-1 blockade for mismatch repair deficient colorectal cancer. This is the initial study on patients with locally advanced rectal cancer, none of whom required salvage surgery. Subsequent studies on colon cancer and using more elaborate treatment combinations have confirmed high success rates associated with this approach.
