The Role of Diverting Loop Ileostomy as an Adjunct to Low Anterior Resection for Rectal Cancer
摘要
There is debate on whether a diverting loop ileostomy after low anterior resection for rectal cancer is associated with a decreased risk of anastomotic leak. The alternative view holds that a diverting loop ileostomy does not decrease the risk of anastomotic leak but decreases the virulence of the leak when it occurs. This prospective randomized trial indicated that a diverting loop ileostomy is actually associated with decreased anastomotic leak rate.
