Women with Epilepsy

This chapter provides an overview of the management of epilepsy in women across various stages of hormonal changes throughout their lives. Management of Epilepsy in women varies with age. Some women experience catamenial seizures, while others may need counseling on appropriate birth control. Epilepsy management in pregnancy and postpartum demands a comprehensive understanding of factors influencing drug levels and hormonal impact on seizure control. This chapter also addresses the teratogenic risks of Anti-Seizure Medications (ASMs) offering insights for counseling women with epilepsy of childbearing potential. Finally, it examines the effects of seizures and ASMs on bone health.
