2000 Taufig’s waterjet-assisted liposuction (WAL) was presented for the first time in Magdeburg (Germany). He designed and developed this method for the targeted removal of fatty tissue in 1999 (2000). Subcutaneous fat tissue removal has a long tradition in cosmetic surgery. Plastic-aesthetic surgery is the most crucial method of shaping the body’s surface, along with the injection of small doses of chemical solutions to remove smaller fat deposits. Adipose tissue surgery has been revolutionised by the development of tumescent local anaesthesia (TLA). When it comes to the question of how much fluid must be introduced into the tissue to remove fatty tissue gently, the “Superwet” method (TLA plus PAL) competes with water-jet-assisted liposuction (WAL). This procedure was introduced almost 25 years ago and is becoming increasingly popular worldwide. It is used daily by operating dermatologists, lymphologists, and plastic-aesthetic surgeons.
