The organisational preparation for inpatient treatment in a German or Austrian lymphological specialist clinic can be considerable. Nevertheless, the possibility of intensified therapy in Phase 1 and repetitive treatment in Phase 2 should not be denied to the patient. For approval by the cost bearer, cooperation between patients, clinic, doctor, and health insurance company is necessary. There is a need for inpatient therapy for lymphedema in a more advanced stage, as outpatient therapy, at best, achieves a stabilisation or slowing down of further progression. An intensification of the daily and over several hours of distributed therapy is necessary. IPK or AIK are available as single and multi-chamber systems. They are unsuitable as the sole decongestion measure; they do not replace MLD. Single-chamber systems cannot be recommended. The IPK is also well suited for thrombosis prophylaxis and arterial or mixed ulcers.
