Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (IPC)
摘要
Every conservative and surgical treatment of lymphological diseases relies on good tissue compression as part of decongestion. Medical compression stockings play a decisive role in long-term care, with their benefits proven through extensive research. Their use is usually accompanied by manual lymphatic drainage, which depends on the presence of a therapist trained in this procedure. For decades, lymphologists and industries worldwide have been collaborating to reduce patients’ dependence on therapy, improve self-management, and support them mechanically through intermittent pneumatic compressions (IPC). The importance of this technical procedure in lymphology is undisputed, and its benefits have been proven millions of times. Nevertheless, its application in everyday patient life is not always sufficiently known. This applies to both primary and secondary lymphoedema as well as lipohyperplasia dolorosa.
