The Impact of Road Transport on the Level of CO2 in Urban Areas

Transport represents the second largest polluter of carbon emissions. This carbon emission is part of the greenhouse gas that causes the Earth’s temperature to increase. The biggest problems are recorded in very crowded urban areas, in metropolitan areas and in large industrial parks. There are obvious differences between the cities of different countries, but also similarities in terms of the impact that transport activity has on CO2 levels. This study was carried out in the city of Toamasina in Madagascar and in city of Brasov, Romania. The objective of this study aims to identify the impacts on the environment and human health linked to land transport activities, for two different cities. The methods consist of carrying out interviews with managers of each urban transport cooperative in Toamasina-Madagascar, carrying out calculations on annual Greenhouse Gas information and carry out laboratory studies at the Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania. Urban transport is a source of CO2 which causes global climate change and a source of diseases relating to the lungs of living beings, especially human beings. This study proposes carbon-free urban travel using shared mobility such as shared bicycles and electric bicycles in order to limit the excessive use of private vehicles and make urban transport systems truly sustainable.
