Stewart Myers spent his entire academic career at MIT. He has made seminal contributions to corporate finance. These include the foundations of capital budgeting, capital structure theory, real options and agency dynamics. In addition, he has also contributed extensively by putting theory into practice. This includes his consulting work as a principal at the Brattle Group, which he helped to found. Myers advised major corporations on mergers and acquisitions, capital investment decisions, financing, measurement of the cost of capital and valuation. He has appeared as an expert witness in major cases and regulatory proceedings, testifying on the cost of capital, measurement of profitability and value, the economic foundations and design of rate-of-return regulation, intellectual property, the determination of damages and tax issues. Finally, he co-authored with Richard Brealey (and later Franklin Allen and Alex Edmans) the classic finance textbook, Principles of Corporate Finance.
