Hybrid Implicit Multilinear Modeling of Complex HVAC Systems

The study investigates HVAC systems as an application for the hybrid implicit multilinear time invariant (hybrid iMTI) modeling approach. It tackles previous limitations of the implicit multilinear (iMTI) modeling approach from [10], where non-integer exponents in convective heat transfer haven’t been modelled, which are here approximated using rank-2 iMTI approximation. Similarly, the saturation curve of humid air is approximated. Moreover, the hybrid approach allows the use of binary-valued as well as continuous-valued variables, alongside with additional inequality constraints. This enables the representation of saturation effects and logical control functions. This is represented in a comprehensive model of a partial air conditioning plant, including a control system consisting of saturated PI-controllers with anti-windup and a logical control function.
