Tolerancing of the Atomiser Unit of an Aerosol-on-Demand Jet-Printhead

In this paper, we present a tolerance analysis of the Aerosol-on-Demand (AoD) jet-printhead. The focus of the analysis is the atomiser unit, which performs the atomisation of the functional ink directly in the printhead in a point-source-like manner. This new concept has the great advantage that supply lines are eliminated, the system can be switched on and off on demand and can even be operated against the direction of gravity. In order to be able to make statements about the functionality depending on the correct position of the atomiser unit in the printhead, a tolerance analysis is carried out based on fluid dynamic modelling and simulation with regard to axial offset and tilting.
