Integrated Multi-agent System Simulator and Network Emulator Framework to Realistically Exercise Networked Command and Control Application Scenarios

The myriad of equipment and people interacting to accomplish a given mission in modern battlefield setups pose important challenges to make the networked military systems work as desired. Most of this interaction is performed using wireless communication via Command and Control (C2) Systems, which represent a critical factor in the mission’s success. To trust these C2 systems will respond to the demands, there is a need for assessment of their functionality, as well as their supporting networks. However, there is a lack of tools that provide all the necessary behavioral and network features to perform this assessment. To cover this gap, this work reports the development of a battlefield simulation environment integrating a network emulator and a Multi-Agent System simulator. With the combination of these software tools, it is possible to model specific characteristics of each area, providing a comprehensive framework to acquire the necessary data to realistically assess networked military network setups.
