Effectiveness of Video-Based Intensive Core Training in Parkinson’s Disease

While intensive rehabilitation is considered effective against progression of symptoms in people with Parkinson's disease (PD), it is often difficult to implement due to environmental factors. To address this issue, we developed a tele-intensive core training program. This study examined the effectiveness of the video-based program in PD patients. Thirty-one PD patients gave written informed consent and were enrolled in the study. Intensive telerehabilitation included weekly personal training and independent practice for at least 4 days a week over 12-weeks. The exercises utilized video content and were primarily directed toward the trunk. By the end of the program, body function and performance measures had significantly improved compared to before the program. The results suggest intensive telerehabilitation can enhance quality of life, motor skills, and walking ability in patients with PD.
