Physical Therapy Intervention Effects Observed in Sit-To-Stand Motion and Balance Function in Cerebral Palsy: A Case Study

This study investigated the effects of physical therapy on sit-to-stand motion and balance function in children with cerebral palsy (CP) using three-dimensional motion analysis and ground reaction force measurement. An 8-year-old girl with CP underwent assessments before and after the intervention by an expert physical therapist. The sit-to-stand profile score (STSPS), five-times sit-to-stand test (FTSTS), and index of postural stability (IPS) for sitting were used to evaluate improvements. The results showed improvements in the STSPS, FTSTS, and sitting IPS after the intervention. Detailed analysis revealed improvements in hip adduction, hip rotation, and pelvic rotation during the sit-to-stand motion. This study suggests that comprehensive assessments can effectively demonstrate improvements in children with CP following rehabilitation intervention.
