Manufacturing Operators Self-training Using Finger and Wrist Kinematics

The Monitoring of Human Kinematics (MHK) stands at the forefront of transforming training methodologies in the industrial sector. With its focus on integrating hands trajectory kinematics, MHK opens up innovative pathways for improving manufacturing operator training. In this context, this paper introduces SELFEX, a pioneering approach that harnesses wearable finger-tracking gloves and wrist trackers alongside extended reality (XR) to provide operators with immersive, self-directed training experiences. Through real-time feedback and visualization of expert movements, operators refine their skills within a simulated work environment. SELFEX incorporates a self-assessment feature, allowing operators to autonomously evaluate their progress and enabling administrators to make data-driven decisions regarding operator deployment. This integration of MHK principles into operator training a significant advancement in enhancing workplace efficiency and proficiency. This new approach can be applicable in many fields, especially when dealing with tasks requiring high manual dexterity.
