Challenges and Future Directions Using Muscle Synergies for Reliable Assessment in Neurorehabilitation

Muscle synergy analysis is an established method for studying motor control in basic neuroscience based on multichannel EMG recordings. Changes in muscle synergy structure and recruitment have been proposed as physiological markers of the status of the motor system after neurological disease. In this paper, we focus on the main challenges and future perspectives for integrating biomarkers based on muscle synergies into clinical practice.
