A Novel Technique for Removing Electrocardiography Artifacts from Electroespinography Signals by Preserving Low Frequencies

This study presents a novel technique to eliminate electrocardiography (ECG) contamination in electrospinography (ESG) signals while preserving signal information. By utilizing an adapted Adaptive Template Subtraction (ATS) algorithm with ECG signals (ECG+ATS*), the method effectively retains over 70% of lower frequencies, compared to just 1% with the original ATS algorithm. Although the ECG+ATS* did not achieve the original ATS algorithm’s satisfactory denoising performance (mean reduction of KR2 of 79.30%), it yielded satisfactory results (mean reduction of KR2 of 64.49%). However, the method’s effectiveness is highly dependent on the quality of the ECG signal, leading to potential variability in results.
