Enhancing the Biological Passport with Blockchain Technology

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has implemented various strategies to combat doping in sports, among which the use of an individual electronic record for athletes, known as the biological passport, stands out. The objective of this passport is to collect profiles of biological doping markers and doping test results over a period of time, using a mathematical algorithm to analyze and calculate the athlete's profile. Once this profile is constructed and the athlete's normal values are known, it becomes possible to identify potential anomalies and detect cases of doping. Blockchain technology aims to provide a method to address the security and reliability challenges of the biological passport through a distributed ledger. The proposal is to design a network that consolidates the records of the biological passport in an immutable manner, supported by blockchain. Therefore, blockchain technology presents itself as a promising innovation for implementing governmental policies and access control regulations. It is overseen by a group of sports organizations to carry out continuous anti-doping tests and health evaluations of athletes.
