Ethics and Proxemics
摘要
This chapter addresses the importance of ethics and proxemics in anthropometry, focusing on respect and consideration for individuals who are being evaluated. It begins by explaining what proxemics is, that is, the classification of interpersonal distances and their effect on interpersonal behaviour. The importance of respecting personal space during anthropometric measurements is highlighted. Next, the ethical considerations to bear in mind when performing anthropometric measurements are detailed. This includes respecting the dignity, diversity, and rights of individuals, as well as avoiding any type of physical or emotional harm during the measurements. Ethical and legal recommendations are offered, such as obtaining informed consent before performing measurements and ensuring that established ethical principles are followed. The requirements for the subjects to be measured are detailed, including appropriate clothing, skin care, and other considerations related to the comfort and privacy of the individual. In addition, recommendations for measurers when performing anthropometric measurements are presented, as well as issues to consider regarding language. The importance of adapting measurement techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of the evaluated individual is emphasised, always prioritising respect and ethics in all interactions.
