Experiences of a Pan-Wales Initiative of Cybersecurity Education in Schools
摘要
In the following chapter, we examine the experience of implementing the CyberFirst programme in Wales, drawing from experiences of delivery officers, ambassadors, teachers, industry partners, and young people. Through four case studies, we explore the challenges and opportunities in engaging young people, supporting teachers and collaborating with industry to develop an effective cybersecurity ecosystem. The chapter highlights the importance of tailoring content to young people’s interests and experiences, providing accessible professional development for teachers, and bridging the gap between industry expertise and educational needs. Key insights include the need for pedagogical innovation in cybersecurity education, the critical role of continuous professional development and the potential of industry collaborations to provide authentic learning experiences. While focused on experiences in Wales, the chapter serves as a call to action for the broader cybersecurity education community, encouraging reflection on current practices and advocating for innovative approaches to address the growing demand for cybersecurity skills and to inspire a diverse future workforce.
