Driving the Future of Digital Forensics

摘要

Enhancing the pedagogy of digital forensics is crucial for academia and industry. Digital Forensics is an industry that is ever-changing and, as such, academia needs to adapt to stay current. Developing Digital Forensic University courses are required to bridge the gap between academia and industry, thus producing industry ready graduates. Traditionally, teaching within university’s has been lecture-led, often sidelining the importance of practical learning. Experiential learning theory states that “experiential learning is the process of learning by doing. By engaging students in hands-on experiences and reflections” (Kent, 2024). Students are participating in practical activities, this increases transferrable skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem solving. To achieve this, enhanced practical learning is required, this increases industry visibility and authentic learning experiences. This can be done through different methods such as collaboration with industry, research, courses/training, conferences, real-world case scenarios, laboratory learning environments, and authentic learning experiences. With the incorporation of these practices, this helps to develop students’ knowledge and develop industry ready graduates to target the industry’s aim of fulfilling the roles of the rising digital forensics opportunities available. This is a continual process that requires consistent development but will in turn assist academia and industry collaboratively.
