The evolution equationsEvolution equation (also known as abstract differential equations) propose a unified approach to the modeling and analysis of dynamical systems governed by various differential laws. Solutions of abstract differential equations are introduced based on the theory of continuous semigroups of bounded linear operators. This chapter surveys some elements of this theory. Many popular infinite-dimensional models of control systems and mathematical physics can be represented as abstract differential equations. Some of them are considered in the chapter as illustrative examples.
