Specifications of the Flow-Controlled Ventilation Ventilator (Evone®)

Upper airway surgeries present challenges for anaesthesiologists and surgeons, requiring meticulous attention to patient oxygenation, ventilation, and surgical field exposure. Traditional methods like endotracheal intubation and high-flow jet ventilation have limitations, leading to the introduction of Evone® a flow-controlled ventilation (FCV) ventilator with Tritube® technology. This chapter explores the indications, advantages, mechanism of action, operational modes, and troubleshooting of FCV in upper airway surgeries. FCV offers improved surgical site visibility, lung aeration, gas exchange efficiency, and reduced energy dissipation compared to conventional methods. The Bernoulli’s principle underpins FCV’s operation, ensuring effective inhalation and exhalation through active mechanisms. Detailed instructions for FCV preparation, startup, patient setup, clinical workflow, and weaning are provided. FCV’s compatibility with Tritube® and its distinct operational modes, including FCV mode and Jet mode, are discussed, along with associated complications and limitations. Safety measures and alarm system are outlined. In conclusion, Evone® FCV emerges as a promising alternative technique for upper airway surgeries and ICU settings offering safety and efficacy advantages over traditional ventilators. However, its optimal use demands expertise and continuous monitoring, emphasizing the importance of ongoing clinical research and comprehensive training for healthcare practitioners.
