Playing Educational Games in Web–Reusability–Interoperability
摘要
Recently, digital games have gained popularity as a tool for education. By creating an immersive environment, these games generate positive emotions that encourage players to become more actively involved in the learning process. However, every player has individual preferences in terms of graphics and mechanics, given the variety of educational games available. The same educational content needs to be integrated across different categories of games to maximize engagement and educational outcomes. However updating educational content across games can be complex. This chapter describes a mechanism that uses web services to make educational content portable across two types of mobile games (point-and-click games and virtual reality games). This innovative approach ensures that each game category and platform can access the same educational content while exploiting the unique features of each game to inspire and engage students. Evaluation of this system shows that integrating the same educational content across different games positively impacts educational outcomes.
