While advancements in medical and surgical interventions have significantly improved the prospects of physical recovery, the psychological aspects of treatment and rehabilitation are equally critical and yet are so often overlooked in practice. This chapter explores the crucial role of psychological factors in the context of musculoskeletal regeneration, emphasising their significance in enhancing outcomes. Research demonstrating that psychological well-being is integral to patient adherence, pain perception, and overall quality of life will be discussed. The influence of cognitive factors, such as self-efficacy and patient expectations will also be explored, in addition to the importance of social support and cultural sensitivity in shaping treatment and rehabilitation experiences. By adopting a bio-psychosocial approach, this chapter argues for a comprehensive, multidisciplinary strategy that incorporates necessary psychological training for all healthcare practitioners alongside traditional training and medical treatments. This holistic approach to patient care aims to optimise recovery and overall patient outcomes by addressing the complex, interconnected factors influencing musculoskeletal health. Through evidence-based insights and practical recommendations, this chapter underscores the necessity of integrating psychological care into musculoskeletal rehabilitation programs, ultimately fostering more effective and patient-centred care.
