Cartilage regeneration is a promising field within orthopedic and tissue engineering disciplines, aiming to address the challenges posed by cartilage injuries and degenerative diseases. This abstract explores recent advancements in basic science that have significantly contributed to our understanding of cartilage biology and the development of regenerative strategies. Key areas of focus include the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in cartilage formation, maintenance, and repair, as well as the role of stem cells, growth factors, and biomaterials in promoting cartilage regeneration. Understanding the intricate interplay between chondrocytes, mesenchymal stem cells, and signaling pathways such as TGF-β and BMP has provided crucial insights for designing innovative approaches to stimulate cartilage repair. Moreover, advancements in tissue engineering techniques, including scaffold-based and cell-based therapies, have shown promising results in preclinical and clinical studies.
