Diaspora Bonds and Infrastructure Finance
摘要
Finance for development remains Africa’s biggest challenge. This chapter explores the prospects of diaspora bonds to meet the infrastructure financing needs of Africa. While diaspora remittances have increased dramatically over the past 10 years, this trend may not translate into diaspora bond subscriptions. Moreover trust, creditworthiness, and quality of the issuing government may be as important as the stock and wealth of the diasporans. Drawing on evidence from countries that have issued these bonds, the chapter provides insights into the prerequisites for the successful issuance of these bonds.
