Temporal Bone Fractures
摘要
The temporal bone is the thickest bone at the base of the skull and can present a very different clinical picture when fractured as it contains many neural and vascular structures. Fractures may require a multidisciplinary approach. Temporal bone fractures have been observed with increasing frequency in recent years, the most common cause being road traffic accidents. One of the most common complications is facial nerve paralysis or paresis. Cerebrospinal fluid fistula, hearing loss, and dizziness are other possible complications. Facial nerve function should be evaluated as soon as possible and medical or surgical treatment planned based on the findings. In cases where cerebrospinal fluid fistula is detected, prophylactic antibiotic therapy and, if necessary, surgical intervention should be planned after an appropriate period of time.
