Cochlear Implantation Surgery
摘要
The first successful electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve in deaf individuals was performed by Djorno and Eyries in 1957. Intracochlear electrode placement was first performed by House in 1961. He used a single-channel device inserted through the round window. The discovery of the tonotopic organization of the cochlea, advances in speech processing, and the development of biocompatible materials have paved the way for today’s multichannel devices. The indications for cochlear implants have expanded over the years. Today, cochlear implant surgeries are widely performed around the world, restoring voice and improving the quality of life for patients.
