Evaluating Hong Kong Businesses’ Readiness in Transitioning to a Carbon–Neutral Economy
摘要
The severe impacts from climate change have pushed businesses worldwide to develop tactics to combat its detrimental effects, making the transition to a carbon–neutral economy an inevitable global trend. The Paris Agreement has specified the goals of reducing carbon emission levels by the end of 2050, wherein each country would foster its own national development plan to accomplish these goals. This paper investigates, through a quantitative approach, the relationships between knowledge, attitude, belief, and businesses’ intention in embracing carbon neutrality. A sum of 415 samples were collected for bivariate and mediation analyses. The findings reveal an interrelation between the four aforementioned variables. Prominent levels of carbon neutrality knowledge are associated with positive attitudes and beliefs toward carbon neutrality. While belief is not the sole factor in developing the connection between attitudes and intentions toward the pursuit of carbon neutrality in business practice, it leaves further room for research on other factors contributing to the readiness for embracing carbon neutrality.
