Subtalar Joint Distraction Arthroplasty and Ankle Deformity Correction

A 54-year-old female patient presented 10 years after an ankle arthrodesis following a tibial pilon fracture. She had significant subtalar joint pain with progressive subtalar arthritis but retained motion. There was a mild varus and equinus position of her ankle fusion. She underwent acute correction of her ankle deformity and gradual subtalar distraction arthroplasty with ring external fixation. At 2-years follow-up, she has retained subtalar motion, diminished pain levels, and remains active.
