Ilizarov Distraction of an Infected Non-union of the Tibia with Angular Deformity Correction

The combination of infected non-union with deformity can be addressed with a staged approach or in one operation. The combination of distraction osteogenesis and local antimicrobial therapy is an attractive option (McNally et al. J Orthop Trauma 31:S47–S54, 2017; Mifsud and McNally. Orthop Trauma 33(3):160–165, 2019). In stiff non-unions, the bone may be corrected and the non-union healed by distraction alone (Kocaoglu et al. J Orthop Trauma 17:543–548, 2003; Ferreira et al. Bone Joint J 97:1417–1422, 2015).
