Subtrochanteric Femoral Nonunion

Subtrochanteric femur fractures can be challenging fractures to treat in the acute setting and even more difficult when addressing nonunions. The majority of subtrochanteric femur nonunions occur with a varus and procurvatum deformity resulting from fixation instability or malreduction at the index surgery. Addressing subtrochanteric femur nonunions typically requires restoration of anatomic alignment, compression, and intramedullary nailing or fixed-angle plate constructs with or without bone grafting. Two case examples highlight different effective strategies associated with treating subtrochanteric femur nonunions.
