Metatarsal Lengthening
摘要
Shortened metatarsal deformity is a condition that necessitates surgical correction if there are symptoms of transfer metatarsalgia and problems with footwear resulting in skin irritation and ulceration. Cosmesis alone is a more controversial indication for surgical intervention. Surgical correction involves lengthening of the shortened metatarsal which can be done acutely or gradually, depending on how much length is required, <1 cm and >1 cm respectively. Post-operatively, lengthening is performed until there is restoration of the metatarsophalangeal cascade. A K-wire is usually required to stabilize the involved toe distal to the osteotomy site.Metatarsal lengthening
