Bilateral Congenital Vertical Talus and Dislocated Hips in a Child with Very Severe Arthrogryposis

This case is not about surgical techniques, but rather about the indications for surgeryIndications for surgery and the general approach to children with severe arthrogryposis. This is a child with very severe arthrogryposis who almost did not have any active movements in her lower limbs. She had bilateral congenital vertical tali that were very rigid and bilateral stiff dislocated hips. Her potential for ambulation was very poor, and she was operated only to improve her quality of life. At the age of 18 months, she underwent bilateral talectomies to enable her to wear braces and shoes. At the age of 5 years, she underwent bilateral valgus osteotomies of the proximal femur to facilitate toileting and local hygiene.
