Post-infection Loss of the Lateral Half of the Upper Tibial Epiphysis with Deformity and LLD

摘要

Destruction of the epiphysis around the knee joint due to infection represents a therapeutic challenge due to recurrence of the deformity after correction, the expected leg length discrepancy, especially if the condition started early in childhood, and the consequences on the stability and mobility of the knee joint. Re-ossification of the epiphysis has been described especially after corrective osteotomy to correct upper tibial deformity. Gradual deformity correction and concomitant leg lengthening using Ilizarov external fixator is a valuable approach; however, the permanent physeal insult may not be correctable and leads to recurrence of deformity.
