Trifocal Distraction Osteogenesis in the Management of Sequelae of Chronic Osteomyelitis of the Tibia (Pseudarthrosis, Deformity and LLD)
摘要
Chronic hematogenous osteomyelitis (CHOM)Chronic haematogenous osteomyelitis (CHOM) continues to be a crippling disease in several parts of the world due to poverty, overcrowding, and malnutrition. The most frequently affected bones are the tibia, femur, and humerus (Museru and Mcharo, Int Orthop 25:127–131, 2001). PseudarthrosisPseudarthrosis and bone defectsBone defects result from sequestration of bone and surgical debridement. Affection of the growth plate results in irregular growth, deformity, and limb shortening. The Ilizarov techniques, utilizing the principles of distraction histogenesis, have been successfully used to correct large-magnitude deformities, distract stiff nonunion, equalize leg length, and bridge bone defects (El-Rosasy, J Pediatr Orthop B 22(3):200–206, 2013).
