Severe Wrist Flexion Deformity in Arthrogryposis Corrected by Carpal Closing Wedge Osteotomy

Patients affected with arthrogryposis usually present with flexion contractures of the major body joints. We are presenting a patient who has arthrogryposis involving the wrist sparing the proximal joints of the same extremity. Significant wrist flexion affects grip strength and range of motion at the distal joints, including the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints. This limitation in motion has an impact on hand function and quality of life. The main goal of the treatment is to improve the position and maximize the functionality of the hand. Treatment depends on the presenting age, and starts with early splinting of the upper extremity joints and may include various surgical options.
