Reconstruction of an Extremely Short Transtibial Amputee with Osseointegration Prosthesis

Presented is a 54-year-old male status post-transtibial amputation with subsequent revision for infection resulting in a 75 mm residual tibia that was too short to utilize a below knee socket prosthesis. The tibia was successfully reconstructed using a bone-anchored osseointegration prosthesisOsseointegration prosthesis. The patient required a two-stage approach due to concern for residual infection in the bone, but following implantation and a period of bone ingrowth, the patient was able to ambulate without the use of support devices.
