Traumatic brain injury is the most common neurological disease. In addition to being an acute condition, it also has substantial long-term complications and disabilities that affect the lives of patients and family members. Due to the care required for these patients, it can lead to significant resource and economic challenges to public health systems. Pharmacists have the ability to influence care beginning in the emergency center and intensive care unit (ICU) through the recovery process. The ICU pharmacist can improve care by actively participating in the management of the patient’s therapeutic regimen, developing medication protocols, and reducing medication-related costs, medication adverse reactions, ICU length of stay, and readmission rates.
