Right Ventricular Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension in the ICU
摘要
Right ventricular (RV) failure is a heterogeneous syndrome with various etiologies. RV failure is commonly encountered in the critically ill population, either as the underlying disease state or through an iatrogenic cause. Treatment of RV failure involves preload optimization, afterload reduction, and cardiac contractility augmentation. Pulmonary hypertension, among many other diseases, can progress to RV failure. Pharmacists play a vital role in ensuring safe and appropriate use of high-risk and specialty medications used in RV failure and pulmonary hypertension.
