Assessment
摘要
The analysis presented throughout this book raises many questions about existing theories, which regard the course of events variously as a catastrophic eruption of quotidian violence and conflict, a by-product of broader social unrest or the result of royal failings. To these must be added the ingredients of spontaneous social contagion, with its complex dynamics of shared values and the rapid dissemination of ideas, information and rumour, combined with the nuanced relationships between crown and municipalities, their contrasting motivations and de facto power. The resultant riots of 1391 were unique in both their course and consequences, a unique scale of forced conversion, in addition to a significant number of deaths.
