The “Healthy Longevity Challenge” was announced in 2023 by the National Academy of Medicine to kickstart the global scaling of Science, Medicine, and Industry towards Healthy Longevity Medicine because of the dramatic demographic shift we are facing: “By 2030, for the first time in recorded history, the old will begin to outnumber the young. This demographic shift poses significant social, economic, and health challenges, but also presents an unprecedented opportunity for accelerating research, innovation, and entrepreneurism in the field of Healthy Longevity—thereby building more vibrant societies and economies worldwide” (National Academy of Medicine, 2023; The Grand Global Healthy Longevity Challenge, 2023). “Healthy Longevity means maintaining physical, mental, and social health and well-being as we live longer.” By extending the Healthspan, people can stay active in their families and communities, remain in the workforce and contribute to the economy, and enjoy fulfilling and productive lives well into their later years” (The Grand Global Healthy Longevity Challenge, 2023). Healthy Longevity Medicine is optimizing healthspan by targeting aging processes across the lifespan (definition by the Healthy Longevity Medicine Society established in 2022) (The Healthy Longevity Medicine Society Healthy Longevity Medicine Definition, 2022). The molecular aging processes of our biology are the greatest risk factor for disease (Anon., Lancet Healthy Longevity 3(7):E448, 2022; Zhavoronkov et al., Aging 1:5–7, 2021). Aging, therefore, should be diagnosed and treated like a disease (Anon., Lancet Healthy Longevity 3(7):E448, 2022) to expand the healthspan for all in a very sustainable, scaleable way for the benefit of the individual and society to close the gap between lifespan and healthspan (Khan et al., Nat Aging 4:445–448, 2024). Healthy Longevity Medicine is a branch of Precision Health synchronized with Precision Medicine and Precision Science (Zhavoronkov et al., Aging 1:5–7, 2021; National Research Council., Towards precision medicine: building a knowledge network for biomedical research and a new taxonomy of disease, 2011; Blanquet, XPOMET 360-degree next generation healthcare, 2019; Blanquet, Patientensicherheitsmanagement, 2022; Blanquet, Precision medicine und Systemmedizin-Plattformen, 2023; Eric, Cell 157(1):241–253, 2014), focused very specifically on optimizing the healthspan and the lifespan through the expansion of the healthy lifespan. Good quality of life for the patient is the key priority. This focus is powered by AI Technology based on big data sets to navigate our health at scale, with the perspective of extremely early prevention through risk assessment. It aims to detect the potential development of a disease and then develop techniques to mitigate those risks, and also eliminate those risks (The Healthy Longevity Medicine Society Healthy Longevity Medicine Definition, 2022; Zhavoronkov et al., Aging 1:5–7, 2021). Healthy Longevity Medicine is also intensely focused on identifying new biomarkers and aging clocks to diagnose aging processes, measuring the outcomes and effectiveness of interventions aimed at stopping or reversing aging, based on the criteria established by the Hallmarks of Aging (Lo et al., Cell 153(6):1194–1217, 2013; Lo et al., Cell 186(2):243–287, 2023).
