Prescribing medication to older patients is a challenge as many drugs are potentially inappropriate for this population. The implementation of clinical decision support systems interventions showed a positive impact on Potentially Inappropriate Medications (PIM) reduction. Therefore, we have developed an online web application offering free access to health professionals for PIM identification criteria based on the EU(7)-PIM list. This study aims to describe what users of APIMedOlder have been searching for the last year. A retrospective study was performed using data from searches carried out by users on the online website APIMedOlder between 16 November 2022 and 16 November 2023. During this period, 400 searches were made, of which 42.8% corresponded to PIM. Most of the searches were made by pharmacists (39.0%), followed by physicians (26.5%), students (23.5%), pharmacy technicians (4.8%), nurses (3.5%), researchers (1.5%), and others (1.3%). The most searched drugs were omeprazole (4.5%), quetiapine (3.5%), furosemide (3.0%), alprazolam (2.8%), and paracetamol (2.5%). The searches made by pharmacists mostly focused on omeprazole (7.1%) and were mostly from the community pharmacy setting (44.2%). Regarding physicians, the most searched drugs were oxycodone and tramadol (6.6%) and were mostly from general practitioners (50.9%). Searches made by students mostly centered on quetiapine (6.4%). Most students were from a nursing degree (53.2%). Other health professionals accounted for a smaller proportion of searches (11.1%), reflecting a lesser but diverse user engagement. Although this web-based application is not yet widely publicized among health professionals, some searches already demonstrate its potential to reduce PIM prescription in older adults.
