Good Multiculturalists Make Good Singaporeans
摘要
This chapter discusses the relationship between Singapore’s model of multiculturalism and migrant integration. Migrants are expected to adapt to a multicultural Singapore through becoming familiar with the ethnic diversity that makes up the Singaporean population and displaying an ethos of multiculturalism that involves an acceptance of cultural difference. However, as newcomers are incorporated into the Singapore multicultural community, they reshape its very nature, bringing in new cultural practices, norms and values which challenge ideas of what constitutes the Singaporean nation.
